What is offered at Jan Young Music Studio?
...the joy of making music!

I teach voice, piano, and accordion, as well as offering vocal coaching and accompanying.  My focus is on positive support and encouragement and a sound understanding of the instrument and the joys of playing or singing.  Music lessons can be, and should be, fun as well as productive.

VOICE, PIANO, ACCORDION INSTRUCTION:

My lessons are for adults as well as children.  Beginning students will receive a solid foundation of musical know-how in addition to the basics for the chosen instrument (voice, piano, or accordion).  The curriculum is varied, and does not focus on a specific style of music, but rather prepares the student with the skills and knowledge necessary to continue their studies with classical, jazz, popular, or whatever style of music they embrace.  Click on the buttons at the left for more information about Voice, Piano, and Accordion instruction.

VOCAL COACHING:

Of particular joy to me as an instructor is the opportunity to offer vocal coaching for singers, or would-be singers, who need to prepare for a special event.  Frequently, people agree to sing at a wedding or an anniversary event, and need help preparing their selected number(s).  I can help.  Click on "Vocal Coaching" at the left for information about coaching for special occasions.

MUSICAL QUOTATIONS:

Scattered throughout this site, you will find thought-provoking, charming, or funny quotations that remind one that music is more than an elective that is provided in some schools, and overlooked in others - music, whether the enjoyment of listening or the thrill of being able to make it, is essential to that in us which is creative.
